Oatmeal when served plain can be bland, unexciting, mushy, and just not appetizing. When prepared with fun fixings, it can easily become a staple in your diet. Generally, people don’t realize that oatmeal comes in more varieties than just in a small little packet. For example, there are rolled oats, steel-cut oats, quick oats, Scottish oats, instant oats, whole oat groats, and oat flour. There is an endless number of ways you can cook and prepare oats. For example, there are rolled oats, steel-cut oats, quick oats, Scottish oats, instant oats, whole oat groats, and oat flour.
Type of Oats
As mentioned, there are many different types of oatmeal and they usually vary in cooking texture. Steel-cut oats have a more chewy and firmer texture compared to rolled oats. If you are someone that claims they don’t like oatmeal because of its soft and mushy texture, I highly recommend giving steel-cut oats a try. Personally, steel-cut oats are my favorite for that reason. You will need to cook them a bit longer, but they are definately worth it.
Oat flour is another type of oat. Actually, oat flour is just rolled or quick oats ground into a flour like texture. Instead of buying flour, you can put some oats into a blender and make your own flour. To substitute regular flour in a recipe, the ratio is just 1 cup of regular white flour to 1 1/3 cup of oat flour. Therefore, you can make many of your favorite baked good recipes gluten-free with oat flour.
Ways to Use
One of my favorite ways to make oatmeal is when they are cooked over the stove. Personally, I love mixing a 1:1 ratio of steel-cut oats and rolled oats. For this reason, I greatly enjoy the texture of the steel-cut oats with the softer texture of the rolled oats. With the addition of fruit, my personal favorite is frozen wild blueberries and bananas, it is the perfect simple breakfast. Moreover, there are so many fun and new ways to make oatmeal coming out weekly, and here are 50 fun and unique recipes to try or give you inspiration.
