Chickpea cookie dough is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional cookie dough. It is made from chickpeas, which are a great source of protein and fiber. It is also gluten-free and can be made vegan by using non-dairy chocolate chips.
Is Chickpea Cookie Dough Healthy?
Before we begin, you may be asking yourself “Is chickpea cookie dough healthy?” It sounds too good to be true, right? Typically, cookie dough and healthy don’t go together in the same sentence, until now.
Chickpea cookie dough is generally considered to be a healthier alternative. Traditional cookie dough typically contains refined flour, sugar, and butter, which are high in calories and low in nutrients.
This recipe, on the other hand, is made from chickpeas, which are a good source of protein, fiber, and other nutrients. The protein powder and dates used in the recipe also provide healthy protein and natural sweetness.
However, it is important to note that eventhough it’s made from whole foods, like any other dessert, should be enjoyed in moderation. It is still a sweet treat and contains calories and sugar.
Overall, this is a healthier option to the traditional, but it should still be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
Ingredients for Cookie Dough
To make the cookie dough, you will need the following ingredients:
- Tin chickpeas drained
- Oat flour (literally just blended/ground oats)
- Medjool dates, pitted
- Maple syrup
- Plant milk ( I used soy)
- Vegan vanilla protein powder
- Vegan chocolate chips
To begin, place all the ingreidents into a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Add in the chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate and pulse until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Transfer the chickpea cookie dough to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the dough to firm up and the flavors to meld together.
When you are ready to enjoy your dough, you can serve it in a variety of ways. You can eat it by a spoonful, use it as a dip for fruit or pretzels, or use it as a filling for sandwiches or wraps.
One of the best things about chickpea cookie dough is that it is so versatile. You can customize it to suit your taste preferences by adding different ingredients or flavors. For example, you could add cocoa powder to make a chocolate version, or stir in some chopped nuts for extra crunch.
In addition to being delicious, chickpea cookie dough is also a great option for those with dietary restrictions or allergies. It is naturally gluten-free and can be made vegan by using non-dairy chocolate chips.
Overall, chickpea cookie dough is a tasty and healthy alternative to the traditional. Give it a try and see for yourself how delicious and satisfying it can be!
